This is everything you could ask for in a Californian Zinfandel - rich, sweet black and blue fruit, but not jammy, tempered by a layer of savoury leafiness, which joins in halfway and carries the baton through to a long and present finish. But there's more to this wine too - it's spicy and mineral - there's a saline complexity that hints at the quality of the vineyard site. It's easy to drink this and you can enjoy it enormously at a superficial level, but dive into the minutiae and you'll be rewarded with a wine of real quality.
